In the continued progression of surf style wakesurf tricks, James Walker brings what we believe is the first ever landed surf style front shuv. The front shuv is a vartaion of a shuv-it in which the board rotation is frontside, rather than the normal backside. We’re not quite sure where the trick originated, but we saw it first at the WWSC completed by Drew Danielo. To date we haven’t seen anyone else land that trick on a surf style wakesurf boaord, so we are currently “claiming” this to be the first recorded!
Here is the short unedited clip of James Walker landing the surf style front shuv. We don’t edit the video so that you get to see the full trick, just as it happened.
Isn’t that the sickest thing you’ve ever seen in surf style wakesurf tricks?!
Now, here are some selected sequence shots of the trick. You can double click on any of the pictures to be taken to our Flyboy Wakesurf webshots album where you can see all of the sequence shots. Here are a few of the sequence shots.
The entry into the trick, looks very similar to an air or the air 180
You can see the orientation of the nose starting to change.
Here you get a real clear picture of the shuv, front foot is off the board and the rear foot extended to push the tail of the board around.
Knees to chest to give time for the board to rotate under James Walker
In this picture, which is several along in the sequence, you can see James has landed with the board revert and is heading into the switch revert surface 180 out
Midway through the 180
Here is James bringing the trick home!
And check the expression on James face!
Progressive surf style wakesurfing at it’s pinnacle! Not that it will stay there for long, with riders like James Walker pushing the very limits of what we all accepted as being the impossible with surf style wakesurf tricks and then BAM! that impossibility is smashed, first with the surf style big spin and now with a surf style front shuv. Maybe we’ll even see these sorts of tricks while the bigger guys are wakesurfing the Bigboy Flyboy?
Thanks so much for following along and please check back for more shuv’s based surf style wakesurf tricks during shuv week!
