So the USA Wake Surf Nationals Day two started off with a bang. We saw some incredible riding by the likes of Drew Danielo, Keenan Flegal, Dom Legace, Bri Chmel, James Hazen, Brian Baker and our own James Walker. James successfully landed the second surf style Back Big EVER in a contest and Chase Hazen riding for Liquid Force is riding a fin pod you saw us test here a few months ago with the nubsters as the trailers and he’s doing a surf style 720. It’s really interesting because of the rule development stuff in the last years. We also saw Keenan doing the same concept, using 3 trailing nubsters on his 5 fin convertible. That’s a LOT of nubsters! In other riding 1440′s were common, as were 3 shuvs, front shuv’s, back bigs and just about everything else you can imagine.
Now everyone was scheduled to ride today and tomorrow, and the pro’s get one final run on Sunday. However, the wind kicked up pretty heavy at the end of the day and they called the contest short due to tornado warning, we think.
So here are just a few shots from the contest. This contest really tries to address some of the crazy boredom that IS most wakesurf contests. Water slide, rail and winch, SUPS, open bar and of course lots of riding! Oh and TODD GAUGHAN yammering away behind the mic. There are you happy now?! Todd Gaughan owns and operates Towanza.com, organizes the World Wake Surfing Championships and is the President of the Competitive Wake Surfing Association.
Ok and some pictures from the USA Wake Surf Nationals. We need to apologize, we misplaced the camera at about 9AM and didn’t find it again until 9PM! So we’re a little light on pictures.
Holy CRAP the bugs in Florida are big and plentiful!
Regular side tow boat
This was fun to walk over when there were 5 people walking at different cadance
Two flat screens
Tables
Water slide!
Tomorrow is more riding and we’ll get the chance to see what the scoring was like. Hopefully we’ll keep the camera around all day!
Thanks for following along!
