Did you see the video and/or pictures from the weekend? James Walker landed a surf style backside big spin on one of his FlyBoy Wakesurf Boards! We’re not 100% sure, but we think it’s the first time it’s been landed on a surf style board behind the boat. In case you haven’t seen it here is the short video. Now PLEASE don’t go complaining about the end, James Walker does curse because he surprized himself! If that sort of thing offends you, please turn your sound off now.
Wasn’t that cool! James was so excited, it caught him by surprize. We also took sequence shots of James Walker landing that trick and you can see them all in the FlyBoy Wakesurf Webshots album entitled Backside Big Spin
A few pictures from that album, this is the height of the varial and rotation
…and James Walker exalted!
As you can see the backside big spin is a backside rotation, where the board goes 360 and the wakesurfer does a body varial and only goes 180 degrees. It’s a hugely progressive tricks and difficult on a surf style board because of the fin depth and position. It requires that the trick be thrown higher off the lip, to clear the fins and also the timing is delayed compared to a skim board again related to the fins releasing from the wake.
We’ll see what this accomplishment brings to wakesurfing this year, we hope James and may other riders start challenging and conquering this more technically oriented tricks that James has now made the new frontier in surf style wakesurfing.
UPDATE! We’ve spent the better part of an hour sort of counting the interactions of folks with the video and the related postings. It’s on a bunch of different websites. In that first 24 hours it garnered more than 1,100 individual interactions. We can’t say unique, because more than likely there are tons of duplications, so someone that liked it on Facebook, would have watched it on YouTube and very well could have viewed a post on a wake related site. First of all, wow! Thanks so much for taking the time to watch it and comment, we really appreciate it! Also, it sure seems that what folks want to see is more of this innovative and progressive surf style wakesurfing. Not sure that James can continually do “first time ever” tricks, but we’ll strive to bring you more of the progressive and innovative tricks that it sure seems folks want to see! It bears repeating, thanks so much for all your support, we really appreciate it!

Sorry for the huge review, but I’m really loving the new Zune, and hope this, as well as the excellent reviews some other people have written, will help you decide if it’s the right choice for you.

The Zune concentrates on being a Portable Media Player. Not a web browser. Not a game machine. Maybe in the future it’ll do even better in those areas, but for now it’s a fantastic way to organize and listen to your music and videos, and is without peer in that regard. The iPod’s strengths are its web browsing and apps. If those sound more compelling, perhaps it is your best choice.

I’ll gear this review to 2 types of people: current Zune owners who are considering an upgrade, and people trying to decide between a Zune and an iPod. (There are other players worth considering out there, like the Sony Walkman X, but I hope this gives you enough info to make an informed decision of the Zune vs players other than the iPod line as well.)

Apple now has Rhapsody as an app, which is a great start, but it is currently hampered by the inability to store locally on your iPod, and has a dismal 64kbps bit rate. If this changes, then it will somewhat negate this advantage for the Zune, but the 10 songs per month will still be a big plus in Zune Pass’ favor.
