What a great time at the Wake9.com Spring Wakesurf Festival! Three days of fun, wakesurfing, wakesurf boards, fellowship with fellow wakesurfers and communing with nature!
The festival was broadcast live over the net and my grandparents in Florida were able to watch me ride in a contest for the first time. The technical complexity of live streaming, podcasting and recording such an event is truly amazing!
So I enetered several classes, three to be exact. The surf/skim challenge, the expression session and the men’s open surf. The surf/skim challenge was an event where you ride one direction surf style and the other direction skim style. The expression session is a best trick event and the open men’s surf is a full on surf contest!
Two first place finishes and one second place finish! How is that for the contest debut of the FlyBoy Wakesurf – James Walker Signature Model? I think that I could have won the men’s open surf, but the speed set failure at the start of my run made it hard to recover from that technical failure and the judges didn’t offer a re-ride. No sense crying over spilled milk! First Place in the Expression Session / best trick division, I nailed a 720 on a surf style board! Also a widowmaker and a surface reverse, along with all my airs with grabs. The FlyBoy Wakesurf Board makes all the surface rotation tricks possible, plus I can still air it out. Also a First Place finish in the Surf / Skim challenge, that was a fun division and one of the unique features of this contest.
I was quite pleased with my second place showing in the men’s open. Considering I’ve only been riding this board for about 3 weeks and having the technical and judging failure at the start of my run, to take second is a testatment to how well this wakesurf board performs! Well, and also a little bit about my skills!
Overall a great time for everyone involved and props to everyone involved in the running of that event: Tige Boats, California Marine Sports, Wake Shredder, The Walker Project, Northern California Wakesurf Association and all of the wonderful staff, riders and spectators! Can’t wait for the next event!
